MATTHEW SHELLY

Richard McCorkell was born in Bethlehem, Pa on April 5, 1967. Music was always an important aspect of his youth as his father was an amatuer jazz musician. Rich met Matt in the Fall of 1983 and the two immediately became fast friends, as well as songwriting partners shortly after that. They also enjoyed heading up several rock bands in Jr. High and High School with names like SURRENDER , TEMPUS FUGIT, THE SPIDERS and CONQUEST. They played many school events such as "Battle of the Bands", "Spirit Day", jazz band competitions, choral events, and even headlined an "airband" competition in 1986 that was videotaped and can be seen on an upcoming SOMEONE'S CHILDREN DVD release called "Someone's Children Part 1--The Early Years". Check out these great photos below from their high school days.                      During this period their songwriting blossomed with such early pieces as "Shallow Thought", "Tales of the Black Forest", "Dreams and Storms", "Journeys", "In The Pain Of Performance" and many others. In fact, the current CD release REVELATION is a new recording of a large prog-rock piece that was also written during these formative years.

Matt and Rich formed a pop band in 1989 called OPEN CONCEPT (see OPEN CONCEPT EP), but then shortly after went their different ways personally and professionally for a while, only to re-unite in 1992 with the birth of SOMEONE'S CHILDREN. "Children" quickly became the ultimate Shelly/McCorkell partnership, as the two artists forged a new musical entity that encompassed the best of what they could offer, both conceptually and thematically. Through SOMEONE'S CHILDREN, the music is less written but more accurately evolves, winding through the lives and emotions of the two men, manifesting itself as a common thread of two friends sharing a journey. A journey fraught with love, hate, scorn, praise, stability and psychosis...where anything is fair game and the very act of creating is sacred. Please come along with Rich and Matt to this place...
